PKM Weekly - 2025-11-09
A look at the latest Personal Knowledge Management PKM news from the past week.
Hi Everyone,
We are back with another episode of PKM Weekly. Let’s see what is in store for us today.
Unfortunately, no video today because over the past few days I've caught a cold / man-flu / death bug or something similar and have no voice.
Obsidian
Obsidian as an Outliner (A la Logseq)?
Avelino commented - I would like to be able to use obsdmd, but not being a default outliner and the journal structure bugs my brain I know there are plugins for both features, but they don’t work as well as logseq.
The response from Kepano was:
Obsidian will never be a great outliner, it’s designed for prose and individual files as the core unit. It’s really hard to make an app that’s good at both prose and outlining while also giving you the portability and durability of Markdown files
So for anyone else in the same boat, there we have it.
I’m making an Operating System out of Obsidian.
Op posted: As requested, I’ve started work on an Obsidian OS vault (may have to change the name because there is an actual OS named this). I thought it was a good suggestion because I have so many vaults that I’d like to launch. I have a lot of plans for this. I’m starting with the layout and design to keep myself inspired. How this works:
Obsidian is the OS,
The vault is the file system,
Plugin API for system calls (UI, commands, event listeners, background processes,
Node for the runtime environment render engine (since that’s what the plugins use),
Apps could either be plugins or vaults that are launched using URL schemes.
TANA
Tana Offline
The main news surrounding Tana this week, is the great offline mode release that the devs have published. There are still a few rough edges, but it is certainly an incredible achievement by the Team.
Full editing in personal workspaces, read access to shared workspaces. No disruption when temporarily disconnecting and option to enter full offline mode for longer sessions without internet.
Tana Other Updates
In addition to offline mode, the devs also introduced the following:
Added workspace default for content width. Shift+click a width option to set your default for all new nodes. Access via width button or command line with ‘Set content width default’. New nodes will use your default width automatically. Per-node overrides still work.
Improved - Mark important fields as pinned in supertag configuration. Pinned fields are more accessible in the filter toolbar, display at the top of tagged nodes, and show first in all view options (Filter, Sort, Group, Display).
Improved - iOS: New Liquid Glass design.
Improved - Claude Haiku 4.5 added to AI model picker.
Tana Learn Live: Live search and Views
Once your notes have structure with supertags and fields, something powerful becomes possible: information surfaces exactly when and where you need it. Live search finds what you’re looking for across your entire workspace. Views transform those results instantly into the format that fits. Together, they enable contextual retrieval that updates as your work evolves.
In this session, the team will show how to:
Build live searches anywhere to surface information
Create contextual searches with field values and operators
Transform results with views and use related content areas
Master the query builder to make your own contextual searches
And tackle questions like:
“How do I find all meetings with a specific person?”
“How do I create searches that work everywhere, like tasks for any daily note?”
“When and how should I use different views?”

Logseq
Since I spent a week to learn and set up Logseq, I can’t leave it
Post from Reddit: Back to couple years ago, I discovered Logseq, spent a week to learn both GTD and Logseq query.
At some point, I want to migrate to some other note taking app because Logseq lack of plugin, the table editing is so bad, whiteboard is not so fit my need. But I’ve not found any app that so dynamic with query and multiple task status ( most of them just using checkbox). Finally I cannot leave it.
Here is my setup with right panel as sidebar instead of default sidebar, journal template with some prefilled daily task and weekly goals review daily(one of my favorite feature)
