PKM Weekly - 2025-07-27
A look at the latest Personal Knowledge Management PKM news from the past week.
Hi Everyone,
We are back with another episode of PKM Weekly. Let’s see what is in store for us today.
Capacities
What's next?
Capacities have released their what’s next plan.
So far, 2025 has been about polishing the basics and laying the foundation of the next phase of exciting features and improvements. Now it’s time to look forward to exciting new features and improvements.
Object Views & Query Improvements
Variable Queries: We’ll add ‘This object’ syntax to queries, so you can reference the parent object in embedded queries
Group by: You’ll be able to group your views by properties, which is a necessary prerequisite for Kanban views.
Label property: Instead of having a dropdown that links to a set of object,s you will be able to define a set of labels (like status, category, etc.) without using object properties.
Readwise Integration
We are now working with the Readwise team to finalise the technical details and begin phase one of the implementation.
Believers will get access to the Beta version first, and the integration will be available for Capacities Pro afterwards.

I'm really trying to like this app..
OP shared: I'm really trying to like this app..But I find it so clunky to use. I'm not even going to talk about tablet and mobile, but even on macOS, I struggle with formatting, moving, grouping blocks, formatting text, shortcuts behaving inconsistently, and clunky navigation.
It could very well be me. Any tips on how to learn to use Capacities better?
What do you think - agree or disagree?

Obsidian
Obsidian as a Read Later App
OP shared: I was a long-time Pocket user. I used it to store articles from newsletters or my feed and it was my central hub where I looked if I wanted to read something. But at the end of May 2025, Mozilla announced that they will shut down Pocket on the 8th of July.
Afterwards, a lot of posts popped up which showed off different alternatives, but nothing really caught my interest. I’m a big fan of getting most of my stuff done in as few applications as possible and therefore I was looking around if one of my existing tools can do the job. This is when I learned about Obsidian Web Clipper.
With a few simple steps, OP walks us through how we can use Obsidian as a Read-it-Later App.
Stop gatekeeping how Obsidian should be used
OP rants with users who insist there is only one "correct" way to use Obsidian, emphasising that it is a versatile tool and can be used in many ways based on individual needs. Their own use of Obsidian is primarily for work-related tasks such as hoarding articles and meeting notes, annotating them, managing projects, and exporting polished documents, rather than for personal journaling or leisure activities. Obsidian is a tool meant to be customised for practicality and efficiency, and users should not lecture others on how to use it.
Lots of responses and thoughts from other users here.
Using Claude Code as a Content Research Agent with Obsidian
Riley posted a video on using Claude Code, and in it, he has a segment on Using Claude Code as a Content Research Agent with Obsidian. The video is available here, and the Obsidian section starts at 4:35.
Logseq
Semantic Search
The devs are working on a Semantic Search feature - not 100% sure how this will be implemented or how it will work, but the GitHub commit includes a lot of tweaks.
Emojis and icons
In the new DB version, you can choose between emojis and icons for the page. You can also choose the colour for the icons.
Will the db version work well with git?
OP asks: I'm using git to sync (and version/backup) my graph. Once Logseq switches over to SQLite files, versioning them with git may become more challenging than the markdown files currently in use.
Is there a way to keep using git even after the db branch takes over? Will i have to trust that Logseq Sync won't lose my data, even in merge conflicts?
My reason for using git is, as a developer, I'm used to git, and I consider it to be very stable and versatile.
TL;DR can we keep using git after the db-branch becomes the default?
It seems that things will not be so easy, but check out the responses for more.
