PKM Weekly - 2025-07-19
A look at the latest Personal Knowledge Management PKM news from the past week.
Hi Everyone,
We are back with another episode of PKM Weekly. Let’s see what is in store for us today.
Obsidian
Lots of Updates
This week, the Obsidian devs issued a couple of updates:
1.9.5 Desktop - Bases has a new formula editor. It includes syntax highlighting, autocomplete, and shows documentation about the current expression, amongst many other updates. See it in action here.
1.9.5 - Mobile - Mobile now includes all new functionality and bug fixes up to Obsidian Desktop v1.9.5 and a few other bug fixes.
1.9.6 Desktop - Lots of bug fixes around Bases functionality.
Enhanced my Obsidian morning routine with voice input and Claude Code
OP posted that they have been working on improving my daily note creation in Obsidian. Instead of manually typing everything, I now use voice input to create structured daily notes that automatically include calendar events, my daily intentions, and consistent formatting.
The system respects Obsidian's philosophy of keeping everything in plain text while adding voice convenience. I use SuperWhisper for local voice-to-text conversion and a Claude Code to process my responses into properly formatted markdown.
The system prompts me with three questions each morning according to a template I predefined: my intention for the day, what systems I want to focus on, and my personal development goal (this is my template). My voice responses get processed into a structured daily note that connects directly with my existing vault structure.

How Many Users to Obsidian Have?
Kepano posted a reflective post on X with:
No one knows how many users Obsidian has. I think it's around 5-10 million people but I'm not sure?
Anyone can download the app and start using it without creating an account or talking to anyone, and there are no analytics built-in
What’s your take on the potential number of users?

Capacities
July 2025 Update
This release brings significant improvements to data modelling and user experience. We’re introducing two-way linking of properties for cleaner object relationships, renaming select properties to “Object select” for better clarity, and delivering a design refresh that modernises the interface. The query UI has been completely reworked with live updates, and we’ve added powerful new export capabilities alongside enhanced table customisation options.
Here are some highlights:
Two-way linking for properties for cleaner, smarter object relationships
A refreshed, modernised UI with a cleaner look
Completely reworked query UI with live updates while building + more query options
Export content views as CSV + Markdown files—including media!
More customisation options for tables: hide, resize, reorder columns
Default templates for every object type
Table Customisation
In addition to the above work, we can now (finally) have more control and customisation in table views.
We can now hide columns from view and also enable and disable text wrapping, which was driving me crazy. Great update and makes table views actually usable.
Daily Note Workflow
OP asked how Capacities users use Daily Notes.
I'm torn between putting full-fledged notes there or just reference links to where my actual deep thought lies.
I dunno i feel like im stressing about something incessant- so looking for tips/guidance etc!
TANA
Recent Entries Coming Soon?
OP posted an image of their Tana space and was pleasantly surprised to see a “Recent” built-in option. It is unclear if this is for everyone or slowly rolling out to users (or a mistake), as a few others commented that they do not see the option.
My 'No Inbox' Tana Note-Taking System: How I Get Things DONE
Want to be like Ev, who hasn't processed a capture inbox in over a year... and my notes are more organised than ever.
Most of us have been taught that a good note system needs a capture inbox - get things out of your head fast and deal with them later. But let's be honest: "later" often becomes "never" and your inbox turns into a digital graveyard of forgotten ideas.

Privacy & Security using Tana AI Notetaking
OP posted an interesting question: Privacy and security is extremely important to me and my clients. I like the idea of taking notes in Tana using my voice on my phone. As I understand it, Tana uses AI for notetaking. I am concerned that if I include names of clients or other identifiable information, Tana's use of AI is part of a LLM and my notes will no longer be private or confidential
There are a few responses, but I am hoping this thread gains visibility so that others can post their thoughts too as it is interesting to me too.
Logseq
Feat: Add a CLI [WIP]
On GitHub, CLDWalker created a pull request for adding a CLI - there are no comments, and I am not 100% sure what this feature will add (apart from communicating with your notes through the command line?), but I thought to include it in case it was interesting to others out there.
Quick Add
I think I missed this last week, but the devs have been working on a quick add feature. This will enable us to take on-the-fly notes no matter where we are in Logseq, and the notes will be added to our Daily Notes Page.
Mobile and RTC Testing
Following last week’s updates on mobile and RTC testing, I am seeing numerous posts from users asking if anyone has access to either of them. I believe the devs are doing a slow rollout, so if you do not have access just yet, hang tight, as I am sure it is just around the corner.
ClickUp
This week's release brings smarter scheduling, faster loading in Lists, more flexible Whiteboards—and much more!
AFFiNE
AFFiNE released v0.23 this week, and it included several updates.
This is a brand-new version marking a significant leap in AI capabilities and a crucial starting point for AFFiNE's transition to an AI knowledge base product. Multimodal AI knowledge bases will become the fundamental form of future knowledge base products, and AFFiNE's entry point will also be adjusted accordingly to achieve a tighter integration of writing and AI.

Heptabase
v1.64.0 has been released this week. The update includes:
Chat: You can now select multiple whiteboard objects to add them as chat context or start a new chat with them.
Support the ‘created by’ filter in the global search.
Improved loading time when entering someone else’s space.
Enlarged the layout of the global search palette.
Rearranged the order of items in the whiteboard context menu (right-click menu).
Noteey
Noteey has released a few further updates, and what better way to get up to speed on the changes than with Antone?
In his latest video, Antone walks through 30+ major feature improvements that are making Noteey a serious productivity powerhouse. From auto-layout features to mind mapping updates, enhanced list management, and new project organisation - this video covers everything you need to know about Noteey's latest capabilities.
Thymer
In the latest demo published by the devs, we can see journal notes, folders, notes, images, views and PDF attachments.
The devs just posted a new page for plugins on the Thymer site and uploaded the first version of the plugin SDK to GitHub, ready for when the beta launches. While we wait for the release, be sure to join the Unofficial Discord / Reddit.
That’s all for this week. Thank you very much in advance for reading. I look forward to sharing more PKM news with you next week.
